Is there any way the entries on the index page to this series can be dated and placed in order so the right volume can be found? There is no point in having a series of headings saying 'Philosophical magazine' with no additional information on that page about publication date, series number etc. Its a case of looking at the volume in question, which is a waste of time, especially if I want to refer back to it later.

you could use the advanced search and sort it by either date or volume or title. This link for example (copy and paste the entire link as only part of it will be rendered as linked):
http://archive.org/advancedsearch.php?q=%22Philosophical+magazine%22+AND+collection%3Abiodiversity&;fl[]=date&fl[]=identifier&fl[]=title&fl[]=volume&sort[]=&sort[]=&sort[]=&rows=500&page=1&callback=callback&save=yes&output=tables

i hope this helps.
